Staff

The staff of Alam Design and Family Builders is actively designing, building, and managing projects all over the United States. These projects include medical and dental offices, veterinary hospitals, retail centers and restaurants, hotels and resorts, schools, city halls, churches and mosques, and custom homes. With certifications from NCARB, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, Alam Design can provide professional Architecture and Planning services in United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

 

Our Architects and Builders are active members of the American Institute of Architects and the Home Builders Association. Mr. Husain Alam, AIA is the Past President of  the "Blue Ridge Chapter" of the American Institute of Architects. He is also on the Board of AIA Virginia, VSAIA. Mr. Alam is the current President of Botetourt Rotary Club. Mr. Alam is also on the executive Board of Directors for the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce.

 

Mr. Husain B. Alam, AIA, NCARB,  is the owner and President of our team. He is a licensed Architect and a Master Builder with 27 years of experience in design and construction systems. He has designed and built projects in United States, Europe, and Asia. Mr. Alam has a B.Arch from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, and  a M.S. in Architecture  from Pennsylvania State University. Prior to starting his practice in 1998, Mr. Alam worked at SSP Architects in New Jersey, and Balzer and Associates in Virginia. He has also practiced Architecture in Poland, Turkey, and Pakistan. He is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Mr. Alam is currently licensed in Virginia, North Carolina, New York, Washington DC, and Maryland. With his leadership, diverse experience, and his unique ability to understand and serve the needs of our clients, we have become the "highly respected" design-build operation in southwest Virginia. Along with his love for Architecture, Mr. Alam's passion for marathon races, kayaking, hiking, skiing, and camping keeps him close to mother nature. He is an avid supporter of environmental sustainability.  
 
 
Ms. Amina Oulmi, Assoc AIA is an Associate Architect and a project designer. She graduated with Bachelors in Architecture from Ecole Polytechnique D'architecture & Urbanisme in Algeries, Algeria in 1999. Amina has pervious work experience at Hughes Architects & Engineers, and SFCS, Inc. She is  passionate about architectural design, product design, and customer service. As a former  jewelry designer prior to her embracing the field of Architecture, she has traveled the world and displayed her jewelry at expositions in Spain and Egypt. Amina also works free lance as an interpreter for French and Arabic languages. Her clientele include foreign diplomats and business delegates. As a mother of two children, she enjoys the beautiful landscape of Southwest Virginia, and all it has to offer to our families. Originally from Algeria, she has lived in Singapore, Dubai, Europe, and is raising her two children in South West Virginia for last 16 years. Ms. Oulmi has been our lead designer for commercial projects, apartment/multi family projects, churches, and custom homes. She specializes in zoning ordinance research, permitting, and other code compliance services, in addition to her design and planning expertise.
  
 
Mr. Blaine Bush, Richmond Branch Manager, oversees our construction projects on a contract basis in Richmond and Northern Virginia areas. He has been a Richmond resident for last 14 years and understands the construction market economics very well. Mr. Bush has an Associates degree in electronics from New River Community College. He started working at James T. Bush Custom Homes with his father in Blacksburg, VA in 1987, and expanded to Bush Construction in Richmond in 1998. He is highly experienced in projects ranging from small renovations to large scale additions and new construction. His decades of experience in remodeling historic buildings in the aging districts of Richmond makes him unique in our industry. He not only values the "historic fabric", but he knows how to protect it, and utilize it's merits in combination with the evolving charms of contemporary Architecture. Our northern Virginia and Richmond customers are fortunate to have his 27 years of  experience guiding their construction projects.
 

Mr. Eric Teske, BS Mechanical Engineering, is our lead Superintendent/Project Manager. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech Mechanical Engineering department. He is our point guard for commercial construction operations. He implements the performance requirements set forth by the clients and the company management team. As a Blacksburg area resident, Mr. Teske monitors the daily progress of various vendors, subcontractors, and field technicians/superintendents in Roanoke and Blacksburg. His 35 years of professional experience includes finishing work, on-site supervision, project management, and business operation as an owner. He strives to to maintain the highest level of quality and details. Some of Mr. Teske's recent projects with our office includes Addition to Ghaphery Office Building on Peters Creek Road, Renovation of 140 year old historic 12 apartment building at 105 Campbell Ave, Addition and Renovation to 160 year old Wise Residence in Salem . While his family keeps him busy in the evenings and weekends, he is organizing and managing your jobs daily from sunrise to sunset, and maintaining the highest level of craftsmanship.

 

Mr. Tony Delp, Project Manager/ Senior Architect, has 25 years experience in the design/building industry. After his professional Archietecture degree at the University of Tennessee in 1992, Mr. Delp worked at Cameron Wolf Architects in Marion, Virginia, from 1992-1996, close to his homeplace in Wytheville. He later worked at Ashworth Vaughn Architects in Memphis, TN  from 1997-1998. His desire to practice high end architecture led him to the west coast, where he worked in Reno, NV at Steven Sederquest Architects from 1999-2000. He was fortunate to work at Tahoe Architects creating some extraordinary residence and commercial buildings around the beautiful mountains and resorts of Lake Tahoe from 2000-2004. He later moved to Butler Design in Phoneix, AZ from 2005-2007 and worked on commercial and industrial architecture. From 2007-2008 he worked at Swaback Partners creating retail, commercial and residential design. He later moved back to South West Virginia in 2011 and worked at Cameron Wolf Architects enhancing the architecture of south west Virginia. Alam Design has been fortunate to have Mr. Delp's diverse professional experience for the last few years. His west coast and east coast experince makes him unique in designing amazing architecture for our clients.

 

Mrs. Wendy Nash, our Office Manager, has 27 years of experience in administration, accounting, and marketing. She has been highly respected and liked by our clients and our vendors. She manages general accounting, customer service, punchlist, and warranty services. She implements our company's high "standard of care," which has become the signature of our service to our clients. With her extra ordinary organization, hard work, and diligence, we are able to ensure "top notch service" on the job sites and in the office. Wendy previously worked with Orvis, Eastern Sales and other local and regional businesses. She lives in Roanoke County in the beautiful Catawba Valley.

 
Mr. Bob Dunman, director of our in-house construction operations, and our lead trim carpenter, lives with his family in Bedford County. He has 40 years of experience in small and alrge construction projects. His wife has worked for UPS for many decades, while his adult sons work for Family Builders doing trim and wood working portions of our projects. His team allows us to self perform a lot of carpentry, concrete, roofing, siding, and miscellaneous other construction work. As they say, "Bob can do it all." Mr. Dunman has worked on Family Builders projects for the last two decades.  His initial construction training in the United State Marine Corp exposed him to the larger structures like bridges, barracks, and military buildings. Over the last 3 decade, he has been doing General Contracting/ carpentry on variety of buildings including commercial and retail establishments along with high end Residences. He managed his own construction company and worked as a subcontractor for our firm, before joining our team as a lead Project Manager. He is a licensed Virginia Class A contractor. He is in-charge of implementing building codes, OSHA regulations, residential and commercial construction details on our sites. His extensive construction skills and experience make him really valuable to clients and project teams. He specializes in excavation, advanced masonry, concrete, trim carpentry, framing, elevator installation, solar panel installation, and casework.His several years in Carolina managing his own business provided him the knowledge to create beautiful details in the "real world" realm of budget considerations. We have been fortunate to have his care, leadership, and keen eye for detail in the Roanoke and New River Valley for the last few years. His diverse experience in the past decades provides our customer a gifted and highly trained craftsman, whose "true calling" is to serve others via construction.
 
 
All our company's accounting is managed and Audited by Century Small Business, Mr. Pat Branes, CPA since 1998. Mr. Bob Swindell with Chas Lunsford and Associates has maintained  our Architecture and construction Liability insurance policies, and Workman compensation insurance policies. We are very fortunate to have highly qualified and dedicated staff, team of consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers for the past two decades. We salute our team for their hard work and dedication to each project. They make it all happen.
